Synopsis
Free World Pens is a film about family and solitary confinement. The film takes shape through letters from a man incarcerated in Texas, whose words echo in the mind of his sister as she walks freely through Montreal.
Description
An empty skating rink echoes with the scrape of skates. The metros are empty, though we hear voices and the announcement of delayed service. A man is in prison, in solitary, has been for years. He writes letters to his sister, the free one, the one who lives in the world of ice skates and metros, cafes and more: a life where heartbreak happens and where a newborn's fist can open and close with the pulse of a tentative heart. Free World Pens disrupts the story we think we know about who is incarcerated and who is free. This is the story of family. It's what happens when normal life becomes surreal. It's about how the solitude of a brother can become the solitude of a sister.
